How to Prepare for Railway Group D Exam

As recently the RRB (Railway recruitment board) has published an advertisement for recruitment
of 62907 posts in Railway Group D. so before going for exam we should prepare and understand the process and prepare well.

Railway Group D Selection Procedure-

First Stage- Computer Based Test (CBT)-

•   There will be four sections as below-
i.    Mathematics
ii.   General Intelligence & Reasoning
iii.  General Science
iv.  General Awareness on Current Affairs

•   Total no. of marks will be 100 and time duration is 90 minutes.
•  Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories : UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-  30%, ST -30%.
• Will consist of multiple-choice objective type questions: English Only
• There will be negative Marking as for every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.

Second Stage- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)-

•     For male candidate -
i.    Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
ii.    Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in 1 chance.
•     For Female candidate -
i.    Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
ii.    Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in 1 chance.

 Preparation Strategy for Computer Based Test (CBT)

For Mathematics –

  Books should be followed 
     i.    Quantitative Aptitude by R.S Aggarwal.
     ii.    Quicker Math, 2nd Edition by M. Tyra.
 Strategy-  
    i.    Very first study the Previous Year Question Papers for analyzing the pattern and level of exam.
    ii.    Start from R. S. Aggarwal chapter wise and only after completing the book once do the M. Tyra chapter wise. 
    iii.    Each chapter from both the books should be completed chapter wise.
    iv.    Practice set should be done on weekly basis and analyze the weak portions and work on them.
    v.    The books mentioned above are sufficient for the preparation.

For General Intelligence & Reasoning-

  Books should be followed - 
    i.     A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S Aggarwal.
    ii.     Test of Reasoning by Edgar Thorpe
  Strategy-  
     i.    Very first study the Previous Year Question Papers for analyzing the pattern and level of exam.
     ii.    Start both the books simultaneously chapter wise. i.e. read one chapter from both the books and complete all the questions from them and then move to next chapter from both books. 
     iii.    Each chapter from both the books should be completed chapter wise.
     iv.    Practice set should be done on weekly basis and analyze the weak portions and work on them.
     v.    The books mentioned above are sufficient for the preparation.


For General Science-

  Books should be followed - 
     i.     General Science by Lucent Publication
     ii.     NCERT Science Books from Class Vth to Class Xth.

 Strategy-  
     i.    Study both the books side by side and start NCERT books form class Vth to Xth for the conceptual Knowledge of topics.
    ii.    Study all the previous year question papers.

For General Awareness on Current Affairs-

  Books should be followed - 
    i.     General Knowledge by Lucent Publication
    ii.     Pratiyogita Darpan (Monthly magazine) by Upkar Publication
    iii.    Daily Newspapers for current affairs.

Strategy-
    i.    Read the General Knowledge by Lucent Publication subject wise and memorize all the facts and figures.
    ii.    Pratiyogita Darpan and daily newspapers should be followed for the current affairs.
    iii.    Maintain the daily notes on current affairs.
    iv.    Study all the previous year question papers.
