After Class 12 students feel exhausted with the nagging question "What are you going to do after class 12". Irrespective of the stream you possess the decision is quite critical. It is a life-changing decision and of course a critical situation for students. Which is a bit natural for the students to get confused about the course to opt. Some have decided it during class 12 but some are still in dilemma of What to choose. But after the tough decision taken in class 10 make it easier. In class 12 you have to study particular stream subjects like physics, maths for Nonmedical students and biology for Medical ones. So here I will be discussing various career options for all the streams.

Class 12

An Important Decision-

This decision is an important one because you will be living the rest of your life with this decision. The course you go for, the college you enter, the subjects you study and many more. The right choice will lead you to the glorious life whereas the wrong decision will call your halt. The right decision will reward you with a beautiful carer whereas the wrong decision will end up your precious time. Because there is a little scope of changing your choice.

The Difficult Decision-

Along with being a very important decision, it is also a difficult decision to take, especially in today’s scenario. Today, students are faced with numerous options and several courses all of which look almost equally interesting. This wide range of courses is boon as well as the bane. Courses available today has further complicated the decision making the process for the students. Students today have far more options available to them as compared to the ones a few years back. Years ago the students used to go for the few trendy courses like engineering and Doctor. Now every student is getting professional in respective subject/course. The competition has reached to its greatest extent which has made the decision complicated and treacherous. Students need to sit for their board exams as well as the student has to explore about the upcoming hurdles and destinies.

How to choose the right choice-

  1. Your Interest and Passion - This is the most important factor the students need to focus on. This is the primary and basic clarity a student should possess about the subjects he/she is interested and passionate in. Having this mental clarity will take you to the courses offered in the relevant subject. This will help you to choose among the hundreds of choice available. Because with this course you have to go on a long runway having interest in the subject will never ket you down. Sometimes the parents pressurize the student to go for a trendy course just for their status which creates a fuss in the student's mind.
  2. Complete Knowledge of the course- The student must possess the knowledge of the course which is going to have opted. The student should explore about the subject it contains and what it will cover. This information can be gathered from various sources like internet. The most feasible is to talk to the seniors about the course. The seniors can tell the flaws. They can guide you through sharing the personal experience which helps students a lot.
  3. Future- This one of the important point one must consider. The student must be known about the future of the course. The thing is to consider is the job options you will be getting after the completion.

Courses for the respective streams-

1. Options for Commerce Students-

If a student is having commerce stream he/she has a sea of options like-

  • One can pursue Bachelor of Commerce degree (B. Com) with specialization in any one subject. After the completion of graduation, the student can join M.com and further Ph.D. in the same subject which leads to the profession of Teaching, Banking Sector and many more.
  • Professional course- There are a no. of professional courses available for commerce students some are listed below-
  1. ​​​​​​Chartered accountancy (CA)- For students who pursued commerce stream in class 11th and Class 12. Chartered Accountancy is one of the most popular course choices after Class 12. The course helps you learn the topics of the financial affairs of companies in accordance with the government laws and also covers topics on taxation, financial transactions through auditing along with the practical training for creating audit reports, etc. A student can opt for the course after the completion of Class 12 or after bachelors. The students need to give an Entrance test called CPT which qualifying in nature to pursue CA Profession. There is no duration of the course as there are three stages which are to be qualified it depends upon the student whether he/she qualifies in first attempt or any further attempt which takes time.
  2. Master of Business Administration (MBA) is another popular choice among the students. Through the course, Students learn how to manage a business professionally and can opt for a degree or diploma in management. The duration of a regular MBA course is 2 years and an Executive MBA course is of 1 year. One can complete their MBA through correspondence also.
  3. Chartered financial analyst (CFA) is another exciting course for Commerce pursuer students. The chief responsibility of a chartered financial analyst is to manage in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, financial management, investment management, and credit rating. The duration of the course is 3-years after post graduation degree.
  4. Company secretary (CS) is another widely known career which a person has "the company meets its statutory obligations. The student interested in can apply for a company secretary course after passing (10+2) examination. The student who passes the Senior Secondary Examination from a recognized board can join the course.

2. Options for Science Students-

  • Maths Students- 

There are a no. of options available for the maths(science) students. The courses offered are not countable and probably most of the professions are available for science students. Some of them are listed below-

  1. One can do Bachelors in Science i.e. B.Sc. in any subject. further after the completion of bachelors, one can do Masters and then Ph.D. which opens a wide range of options like Teaching.
  2.  Engineering- 

Engineering is one of the most sought-after course after class 12. Being a professional course, it attracts almost every candidate who has taken science stream with PCM subjects. Because of its high popularity, it is also a highly competitive course option which requires one to appear for different entrance exams to seek admission to top engineering colleges in India. The most popular among them is the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), which is a common engineering entrance exam. There is a wide range of engineering courses available to the science students like Mechanical, electrical, computer science, civil and biotechnology. Some relatively new fields like that of nanotechnology, textile, petrochemical, marine engineering etc. are also gaining popularity and offer some exciting career choices upon graduation. Most engineering courses require students to have a strong background in mathematics and science. It includes B.Tech i.e. Bachelors in Technology which is of 4 Years duration.

  • Medical Sciences-

After engineering, the second most preferred option for students from science stream is Medical or Medicine. Medicine is the study of life and everything that surrounds it. To put simply, if your dream is to be a doctor. But in addition to this, you can also take up the pharmacy, agricultural sciences and zoology studies also as part of your medical science studies post class 12. Students who opt for PCB or Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12 can opt for courses associated with medical sciences including MBBS. Apart from the mainstream career options, medical research in various fields such as that genetics, microbiology, etc. also offer great career opportunities to medical students. 

  1. M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) offers courses on Human Body. The duration of the course is approximately 5 ½ years which includes 1 year of internship. Students can pursue Post Graduate specialization in different subjects such as Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Paediatrics etc.
  2.  B.D.S (Bachelor in Dental Sciences) offers courses in Dental Surgery and duration of the course is 5 years with Internship. After completion of B.D.S one can do the Post Graduation (P.G) in Dental Sciences.
  3. B.V.S (Bachelor in Veterinary Sciences) courses mainly of the Animal disease, prevention and surgery cases. This course takes 4 1/2 years time with a practical Internship. One can do P.G studies in different specializations after completion of B. V. S course.
  4. Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) is also an attractive career prospect one can pursue. It takes is 4 years to complete the course. After completion of the course one can start alluring career in departments such as Drugs Research or Production in various Pharmaceutical Industries. If anyone wants to do Post Graduation (M.Pharmacy) they can choose a specialization in subjects.
  5. D Diploma course in Pharmacy (D.Pharmacy) offers a 2 years duration course after which one can work as a Pharmacist in various Medicinal Institutions. One can also opt for further studies such as B.Pharmacy and later M.Pharmacy.

3. Options for Arts Student-

After passing the higher secondary level examination a student can pursue Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) taking a special subject as the major subject. Some important major subjects which are offered by various colleges are history, languages, communication, sociology, psychology and many more. After completing graduation a student can do masters degree (MA) in their selected subjects. For further high qualification, one can opt for Ph.D. degree in their respective subject.
