Current Affairs of June 27, 2018, are as follows:-

1. Anant Barua appointed as a whole-time member of SEBI:-

  •  The Union Government has appointed Anant Barua as a whole-time member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Barua is at present executive director in SEBI. 
  •  He had taken charge as Executive Director of SEBI in May 2010. 
  •  Prior to this assignment, he was a legal adviser, Legal Affairs Department (LAD), SEBI. He had been working in LAD since 1992. 
  •  He was on deputation to Central Bank of Bahrain as legal adviser and has also worked with National Fertilizers Ltd. (NFL), Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI) and DCM Ltd.
  • He is commerce graduate with LL.B from the University of Delhi. 

2. 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB was inaugurated by PM in Mumbai:-

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the third annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at Mumbai. The theme for this year's meeting is "Mobilising finance for infrastructure: innovation and collaboration". 
  • PM Narendra Modi urged the AIIB to boost lending tenfold to $40 billion by 2020 and to $100 billion by 2025 in order to speed up infrastructure financing across the region.
  •  The AIIB started its operations in January 2016 and has so far approved 25 projects in a dozen countries with a total financing of more than $4 billion. It has approved 7 projects for India.

3. World's largest multilateral naval exercise RIMPAC to begin in Hawaii:-

  •  The world's largest multilateral naval exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) will begin on June 27, 2018, in Hawaii in the Western Pacific Ocean. 
  • The two-month long biennial exercise is likely to be attended by navies of 26 countries including India. 
  •  Indian Naval Ship Sahyadri has already reached the Pearl Harbour in Hawaii to participate in the 26th edition of RIMPAC exercise. 
  • INS Sahyadri, commanded by Captain Shantanu Jha, is a state-of-the-art indigenously built guided missile stealth frigate which is a part of the Eastern Fleet under the Eastern Naval Command. 

4. OIL India has made its second hydrocarbons discovery in KG basin:-

  • Oil India Limited (OIL) discovered second hydrocarbons in the onland KG Basin NELP VI Block KG-ONN-2004/1.
  • The first high pressure-high temperature (HP-HT) well was built at Thanelanka-1 by OIL. On testing, the HP-HT zone in the depth range 4,912 – 5,159m in Golapalli Formation produced gas at 300 scmd through 16/64” bean choke.
  •  In 2017-2018, OIL India produced 3.3- metric million tonnes (MMT) of crude oil and 2.93 billion cubic meters (BCM) of gas.

5. Ramesh appointed as Chairman of CBIC:-

  • The Union Government has appointed senior bureaucrat S Ramesh as Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the apex policy-making body for indirect taxes. 
  •  He has been appointed as chairman of CBIC with the status of special secretary to the central government.
  •  He will succeed Vanaja N Sarna who retired on June 30, 2018.
  •  S Ramesh is 1981 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise). 
  •  Prior to this appointment, he was a member of CBIC, mandated with the responsibility of implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

6. Indian Shooter Saurabh wins gold medal with world record score at ISSF Junior World Cup:-

  • Sixteen-year-old Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary set a new world record and won a gold in the 10m air pistol event in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany. He got 243.7 points in the final.
  • The junior world record before this was 242.5 by Chinese shooter Wang Zhehao at the first ISSF Junior World Cup of the year in Sydney.
  • The other Indian in the final, Anmol Jain, fell short of the podium, finishing fourth with 199.6.

8. Sanitation Action Plans prepared for 10 new Swachh Iconic Places:-

  • Ten new Swachh Iconic Places of the country on June 26, 2018, came up with through action plans for raising their sanitation standards to exemplary levels. 
  • The plans were formulated at a two-day consultation in Hyderabad held between Central and State Government agencies, local administrations and the Trusts of the iconic places. Over 100 delegates from across the country attended the consultation. 
  • All the 30 Swachh Iconic Places, selected so far under the Swachh Bharat Mission, also resolved to make their sites completely free of plastic.
